PITTSBURGH, July 31, 2024 — Security Journey, the education and training platform to help software developers code more securely, today announced Dan Newton as the organization’s new CEO. Newton succeeds Joe Ferrara, who is transitioning from the CEO role to serve on the company’s board.
Newton brings nearly two decades of managed service and enterprise technology experience to the role. He will guide Security Journey’s strategic vision as the company looks to drive technological innovation, enhance its training offerings including real-world training opportunities, and strengthen customer relationships.
"Over the course of my career, I’ve seen both cybersecurity threats and compliance requirements grow in prevalence. To succeed in this environment, software companies must educate their teams comprehensively,” Newton said. “Security Journey is positioned to be an influential force in helping companies achieve better application security, write safer code, and build a security-first culture. Along with the organization’s talented leadership team, I will focus on enhancing our market-leading curriculum to meet the needs and behavior practices of developers and help our customers navigate this critical and ever-changing landscape.”
Newton previously served as CEO of CDS, a provider of multi-vendor support services for data centers. There, he grew and diversified CDS’ service offerings and customer base and fostered best-in-breed partnerships. Before CDS, Newton was CEO of HiveIO, a developer of intelligent virtualization technology.
“Dan has just the expertise Security Journey needs to continue serving customers with leading-edge secure coding education,” said Ferrara. “It has been my honor to steer the company through its past three years of growth, and I look forward to collaborating with Dan and the rest of the leadership team as a board member.”
In 2022, Security Journey was acquired by software education provider HackEDU to create an even stronger application security solution for companies of all sizes. Security Journey is dedicated to improving security and compliance through secure code training for development teams.
Newton will represent Security Journey at Black Hat USA in Las Vegas, August 3 - 6. Visit booth 4525 to learn more about the organization, its training offerings, and to sign up for its Black Hat Secure Coding Tournament.
